Director Jörn Threlfall has been named by BFI/Screen International as one of their 2015 Stars of Tomorrow. His latest short film Over has the film community standing up and taking note.  This riveting film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Palm Springs International ShortFest in June, and was invited to screen at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in September. It has also been nominated for a European Academy Award and just won Best Narrative Short at Hamptons International Film Festival.

Over presents a crime scene. During the course of 9 wide shots told in reverse order, we witness an intriguing story unfold. What has happened in this quiet neighborhood? A murder, a hit-and-run, an accident? The reality is profound, and deeply unexpected.

IndieWIRE wrote of this intriguing film: “Its atypical narrative style serves the story, playing with time and information in a way that demands the audience to attune their perceptions both during the film and after”. Referencing Michael Haneke’s “Hidden”, it concludes: “The result is a cinematic puzzle with prescient social resonance that’s haunting when the final piece is in place”.

In addition to its recent success in the US, Over took home the Grand Prix at Oscar-qualifying Odense International Film Festival in Denmark, and the Best of British Award at Encounters in Bristol. It’s also a finalist in the BFI London Film Festival’s inaugural Short Film Award.

Jörn studied film & theatre in Berlin, and went on to work for The Discovery Channel and Channel 4 in London. As a commercials director, his work has garnered many honours globally, including Cannes Lions and Gold and Black Pencils at the D&AD Advertising Awards. His debut film Mojado played to critical acclaim at a multitude of festivals worldwide. Jörn is currently developing a feature-length project through his London-based company Lenaray Films.
